By Leo Haggerty

Week 5 was a good news, bad news week for me.  Good news was I didn’t lose any money.  Bad news was I didn’t make a lot of money.

Leo’s Lock came through again (4-1 overall) for $100.  Leo’s Losers was a very fortunate 3-2 (13-12 overall) with Clemson and Oakland plus, do you believe that it really happened, Tennessee to put $75 in the bank.  Leo’s Others was a lackluster 4-6 (31-19 overall) and it cost me a C-note.  Brings the total for Week 5 to $75 to the good and moves the dial to $680 in the black.

Week 6 has already had it’s challenges thanks to Hurrican Matthew.  LSU at Florida has already been cancelled along with Tulane at UCF and I’ve waited until early Saturday morning to post my column in case other tilts do the same.

Don’t get me wrong on this point.  Athletic events pale in importance when it comes to the safety of the populus.  All schools that cancelled games made sure that they erred on the side of caution and should not be criticized.

So, onward and upward to Week 6.

Colorado (-4) loses to SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Yeah, I know Colorado is ranked and SC isn’t. Yeah, I know the Trojans are in panic mode over the future of HC Clay Helton. Still, I can’t see the Buffaloes coming into the Coliseum and walking out with a win. Troy wins one for the HC and saves his job for another week, 26-20

Maryland (-1 1/2) loses to PENN STATE

PSU barely escape with a victory last week at Happy Valley over Minnesota. I think that was a wake-up call for the Nittany Lions. Maryland will put up a fight in Central PA at University Park, as most turtles do, before slowing down in the fourth quarter. State 36-26 but the game will be closer than the score.

CONNECTICUT (+3) loses to Cincinnati

Both team are 0-2 in the AAC. UConn has lost to Houston and Navy. Cincinnati has fallen to Houston, as well, and USF.   Yes, the game is in East Hartford but I don’t think the Bearcats turn it over as much as they have in the past.  Cincy over the Huskies 24-14.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE (-1 1/2) loses to Notre Dame

You got to believe that HC Brian Kelly will have his troops “loaded for Wolfpack” when the Irish head down to Tobacco Road to take on NC State. The fact that the Golden Domers are a dog, outside of playing Clemson or FSU, has the attention of every Notre Dame player.  ND puts a full game together 34-21.

Houston (+6) loses to MINNESOTA

Is there anyone west of the Mississippi playing better than QB Sam Bradford? I don’t think so and All-World DL J.J. Watt is out for the Texans.  Houston WR DeAndre Hopkins is one of the best in the NFL but the Vikings defense is their strong suit. Vikes 20-12 in a defensive battle.

New York Jets (+7) loses to PITTSBURGH

QB Big Ben playing out of his mind and WR Antonio Brown is on another planet.  Steelers defense is back and, have I mentioned, the game is at Heinz Field in the Steel City. New York put up a fight but it won’t be enough. The Burg ground the Jets 31-17.

OREGON (+8) loses to Washington

Auburn (-3) loses to MISSISSIPPI STATE

TEXAS A&M (-3) loses to Tennessee

Virginia Tech (+2) loses to NORTH CAROLINA

East Carolina (+20) loses to SOUTH FLORIDA

Florida State (+3) loses to MIAMI-FL

Washington State (+8) loses to STANFORD

Tampa Bay (+4) loses to CAROLINA

New York Giants (+7 1/2) loses to GREEN BAY

MIAMI (-3) loses to Tennessee
