By Leo Haggerty

Well, Week 1 is in the books and I am the LOSER.  Not a lot of monopoly money but it could have been a lot worse.

Did have a little bit of bad luck last weekend.   In every game that I picked the wrong loser, it was the underdog upsetting the favorite.  That meant I lost the maximum amount as you’ll see below

LEO’S LOCK was far from that to say the least.  Pittsburgh had to block a last second Cleveland field goal in overtime just to salvage a tie.  No blood there.

LEO’S LOSERS was good news and bad news.  The good news was I was 3-2.  The bad news is I only increased the bank roll $25.

LEO’S OTHERS was the one where the dogs jumped up and bit me.  I was 5-5 but, with all the underdogs winning when I thought they wouldn’t, I ended up $300 in the hole.

So, after the opening week, I’m $275 in the hole.  Bad start but, as I look at it, could be down a whole lot more if the Browns would have closed the deal.

OK, so let’s move on to Week 2.  Should have a better understanding of what’s going to transpire so my prognostications are below for your entertainment.  Enjoy.

LEO’S LOCK – $300

Cleveland (+8) loses to NEW ORLEANS

You would think that I learned my lesson after last week with the Browns.  To be honest, if the Saints had won I would be inclined to pick Cleveland to pull the upset.  With New Orleans going down to the Bucs last week at home, Drew Brees and Company will be singularly focused to not let one loss become two especially in The Big Easy.  NO, 38-23, with #9 throwing 4 TD passes.

KANSAS (-2 1/2) loses to Rutgers.

Jayhawks get their first road win last week at Central Michigan since maybe Bush was President and I’m talking about the father and not the son.  The Scarlet Knights are coming off a drubbing at the hands of Ohio State at the Horseshoe.  Both teams are improving and this will be a great barometer to see how far both have come.  I think Rutgers has a little bit of an edge just because their recruiting base is enormous in New Jersey compared to Lawrence on the Great Midwest Plains.  RU, 30-24, and it won’t be easy.

ARMY (-5 1/2) loses to Hawaii

So, Hawaii drops 43 points on Colorado State then 59 on Navy followed by 43 on Rice and they’re the underdog against the Black Knights?  Do you think the bookies in Vegas have lost their mind?  Does that make you wonder why the undefeated Rainbow Warriors are the underdog at West Point against the 1-1 Cadets?  Here’s the only reason.  Kickoff is scheduled for 12 noon EDT and that’s 6 AM body time for the Black & Green.  After sleepwalking through the first half, look for the guys from the islands to wake up just in time.  UH, 38-33, and the beat goes on.  Aloha.

Duke (+6 1/2) loses to BAYLOR

Yup, the Dukies made me look bad when they went into Evanston and beat a good Northwestern team.  Can they repeat that performance in Waco against a 2-0 Baylor squad that hasn’t played anyone of notoriety yet?  There’s a chance of that happening but the Bears HC Matt Rhule will have the Green & Gold focused on the task at hand.  BU, 30-28, in a nail biter.

North Texas (+7) loses to Arkansas

OK, I get it.  The Razorbacks haven’t beaten anybody and blew a big lead losing last week to Colorado Sate in Fort Collins.  Not an auspicious beginning for new HC Chad Morris.  The Mean Green are undefeated and are averaging over 50 points a game.  With all that being said, North Texas hasn’t seen the athletes they are going to encounter all over the field in Fayetteville Saturday afternoon.  UA, 41-31, in an offensive shoot out.

Indianapolis (+6) loses to WASHINGTON

Yes, Andrew Luck is back under center for the Colts but same old story in Indy.  The Blue & White can’t stop anyone and that doesn’t bode well when you’re going into the Nation’s Capital to take on the ‘Skins.  QB Alex Smith led Washington to a convincing win in the desert against Arizona and he’ll be even sharper in his home debut.  WA, 28-13, putting the Redskins atop the NFC East.

ILLINOIS (+10) loses to South Florida

TOLEDO (+10) loses to Miami-FL

Colorado (+20 1/2) loses to FLORIDA

Florida State (-3) loses to SYRACUSE

TEXAS (-3) loses to Southern California

Boise State (+2 1/2) loses to OKLAHOMA STATE

New England (-1) loses to JACKSONVILLE

NEW YORK JETS (-3) loses to MIAMI

Philadelphia (-3) loses to TAMPA BAY

BUFFALO (+7) loses to Los Angeles Chargers
