LEO’S LOSERS : WEEK 17
By Leo Haggerty
So, we finally arrive at Week 17. That’s the final week of the National Football League regular season.
Week 16 was another good week for yours truly. Unless I completely crash-and-burn with this week’s picks, it will be another year that finishes in the black.
Let’s look how Week 16 transpired. LEO’S LOCK (9-6-1) was good for a win and that put 200 clams in my wallet. LEO’S LOSERS (41-39) was, again, an average 3-2 but it was the wrong two and that cost me $125. LEO’S OTHERS (92-68) came through again with a 7-3 log and that put 800 pesos back in the bank.
Also, if you took all the unders like I suggested, you would have had a 10-6 weekend. That would have added 4 Benjamins to your bankroll.
The arithmetic for the year, after a 11-5 weekend, shows an overall record of 142-113-1. Add $875 to my bankroll and, going into the last week of the National Football League regular season, my short-term investment banker is on the hook for 2,050 greenbacks.
So, here are my last prognostications of the season. Will have a few more when the NFL playoffs roll around in January and you can always check out my Bowl Game picks to get you through the Holidays. Until then, enjoy.
WASHINGTON (+6 1/2) loses to Philadelphia
Yeah, I know the game is in DC. They can play this game at the North Pole and I’m still taking the Birds for two reasons. First, Redskins on their 4th QB. Hard enough to win with your backup. Second, and the more important reason, St. Nick lining up under center. PHI, 24-13, and Philly’s playoff hopes stay alive.
Detroit (+8) loses to GREEN BAY
Let’s be real here. I’m not picking against #12 at Lambeau Field in December. That would be just plain stupid. Momma may have raised a fool but she didn’t raise a dummy. GB, 31-21, with Rodgers throwing for four scores.
Jacksonville (+6 1/2) loses to HOUSTON
Interesting stat about Texans QB Watson. Hasn’t lost a game that he’s started, and finished, by more than a touchdown since junior high. Look for #4 to continue that streak against the Jags with a W. Jacksonville will put up a fight for 3 quarters with Bortles playing well. In the end, too much DeAndre Hopkins will be the difference. HOU, 30-17, with a late Watson to Hopkins TD to seal the deal.
TAMPA BAY (-1) loses to Atlanta
This is a tough one because both teams want to lose to get a better draft position. Bucs more motivated to do that then the Falcons. Plus, WR Julio Jones owns the Pewter Pirates. ATL, 27-14, with #11 with two scoring catches for the Dirty Birds.
TENNESSEE (+3) loses to Indianapolis
Colts QB Andrew Luck is playing the best of any signal-caller right now in the American Football Conference. Yes, I know the game is in Nashville and the Titans are tough to beat in the Music City but #12 brought Indy back from the dead last week to put The Horseshoes in a win or go home scenario. The forner Stanford star may have to do it again. IND, 33-31, with a FG at the gun.
DENVER (+6 1/2) loses to Los Angeles Chargers
Chargers could end up with home field throughout the playoffs with a win. With a loss, the Thunderbolts end up as a Wild Card. That’s a lot to play for. The Broncos playing for pride. I’m going with the team with more to play for even with the game in Denver. LAC, 27-10, as Rivers leads LA into the playoffs.
NEW YORK GIANTS (-6) loses to Dallas
Oakland (+13 1/2) loses to KANSAS CITY
Carolina (+9) loses to NEW ORLEANS
New York Jets (+13 1/2) loses to NEW ENGLAND
BALTIMORE (-6) loses to Cleveland
Miami (+3 1/2) loses to BUFFALO
Cincinnati (+14 1/2) loses to PITTSBURGH
MINNESOTA (-4 1/2) loses to Chicago
Arizona (+13 1/2) loses to SEATTLE
San Francisco (+10) loses to Los Angeles Rams
