SIGHTS & SOUNDS OF BULLS PRE-SEASON PRACTICE – AUGUST 10
By Leo Haggerty

It was “lock-and-load” for the first time when South Florida went through their first full contact scrimmage of the pre-season.  Head Coach Charlie Strong was happy to get out of shorts and finally get into full gear so he and his coaching staff can start to evaluate talent.

After going 6-0 out of the gate in 2018, the Bulls did a complete reverse dropping their final seven contest.  Injuries played a major part in that debacle but there is a silver lining to that black storm cloud as you can read below,

The USF Head Honcho wants to try and erase the memory of the complete collapse of last year.  Check out the rest of his comments to my questions.

LH : Last year, you could describe your season as the thrill of victory for the first six games and the agony of defeat for the last seven.  How hard was it to try and stop the bleeding at the end of the season?

CS : We have to look past that. You can’t look back.  You can never look back but you always learn from it.  We’re a different team.  What we want to do now is just get better each and every day.

LH : With all the injuries you sustained last year, you have a lot of players who you didn’t expect to get meaningful snaps get them.  That’s got to help this year, correct?

CS : If you look at it from a year ago, a lot of guys did play.  We have a senior class that played a lot but then we have another group of guys that played a lot of football for us too.

LH : On both sides of the ball, has there been any players that have jumped out at you that you didn’t expect to be that good this early?

CS : It’s really too early to tell.  We’ve had a few days in shorts.  Today was the first day that we had the helmets and shoulder pads on where we got the coaches out of the way and let them go at it and go play.  Next week we’ll get to see who that guy is.  We’ll see who is ready to step up.  We have a lot of guys who are learning fast. Now, next week, we’ll see how they progress and continue to grow.

LH : When do you start to game plan for Wisconsin who is a team that wants to run it and run it and run some more?

CS : The game plan is pretty much in.  We have a week or so to see what are team is about.
