LEO’S LOSERS : WEEK 4
By Leo Haggerty
Well, Week 3 is in the books. Another positive performance and it could have been better.
LEO’S LOCK (3-0) came through again for 250 clams. LEO’S LOSERS (7-8) was a below average 2-3 after the Buccaneers missed a last play chip shot field goal against the Giants. That costs me 500 pesos. LEO’S OTHERS (18-12) saved my bacon with a 7-3 log and that was good for 800 greenbacks.
So, at the end of the day, I improved to 10-6 and that was good for 500 in the black. That moved the needle to 28-20 on the season and increased my bankroll to $1,000 much to the chagrin of my short term investment banker.
Going to take a few chances in Week 4 but you can do that when you’re playing with house money. So, let’s get it started, shall we?
Oakland (+6 1/2) loses to INDIANAPOLIS
Whether you like or don’t like Antonio Brown, the Raiders have no big play guy to lean on without him. The Horseshoes are a play away from being 3-0 and QB Jacoby Brissett is making Colts fans ask Andrew Who? Add RB Marlon Mack and WR T.Y. Hilton to the mix and Indianapolis has a potent offense. I’ll take that over the punchless Oakland offense. IND, 35,13, in a rout.
OREGON STATE (+4) loses to Stanford
Don’t go to sleep on the 1-3 Cardinal. Stanford had to go cross-country to play UCF and held Oregon to 21 points in two losses. Those are two really good teams and the Beavers are nowhere near that type of competition. The game being in Corvallis will help OSU but not enough. SU, 31-20, and the Palo Alto crew get the train back on the track.
Kansas State (+4) loses to OKLAHOMA STATE
K State playing really well but so are the Cowboys. What’s the deciding factor? The game is in Stillwater where Oklahoma State rarely loses. That’s enough for me. OSU, 38-30, in a shootout.
DETROIT (+6 1/2) loses to Kansas City
I can almost pick the Chiefs as my lock every week. I know the Lions are undefeated and playing at home but HC Andy Reid has so many toys to play with on offense it should be illegal. KC, 41-31, in an offensive slug fest.
DENVER (-3) loses to Jacksonville
This may be a stretch with the Jags playing at altitude with rookie QB Gardner Minshew at the helm after starter Nick Foles when down with a collarbone injury. This kid may be special and look for him to lean on RB Leonard Fournette to control the clock and slow down the rush. Jacksonville defense still a class outfit. JAC, 23-20, with a late score.
Dallas (-2 1/2) loses to NEW ORLEANS
Another stretch but I think there’s another hot quarterback on a mission here with the Saints Teddy Bridgewater. Dallas is 3-0 but the three teams the Cowboys have beaten are 1-8 overall. New Orleans coming off a huge win in Seattle and are playing in The Big Easy. NO, 20-17, in a defensive battle.
Connecticut (+44) loses to CENTRAL FLORIDA
Southern Methodist (-7 1/2) loses to SOUTH FLORIDA
North Carolina State (+7) loses to FLORIDA STATE
SOUTH CAROLINA (-3) loses to Kentucky
NORTH TEXAS (-7) loses to Houston
Carolina (+4) loses to HOUSTON
MIAMI (+16) loses to Los Angeles Chargers
New England (-7) loses to BUFFALO
LOS ANGELES RAMS (-9 1/2) loses to Tampa Bay
ARIZONA (+5 1/2) loses to Seattle
