POLL QUESTION – AUGUST 30
By Leo Haggerty

WHAT 3 CURRENT OR RETIRED LIVING COACHES WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE DINNER

It’s the last Sunday in August.  It should have been the first weekend of the collegiate football season but that didn’t happen.  Welcome to Covid-19 football.
The last two weeks we covered the athletes our staff would like to break bread.  Now let’s deal with the coaches and here’s our poll question.
WHAT 3 CURRENT OR RETIRED LIVING COACHES WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE DINNER?
Below are the responses from our 10 staff members.  STAY SAFE!
GABRIEL DIBIASE – KSP WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ANALYST

JEFFREY NEIL FOX – PUBLISHER ITS SPORTS MAGAZINE

Pardon me Red Rooster, I’d like a reservation for Four please. Yes, and let Chef Samuelson know we’d like a 6 course tasting menu. My guests? Of course, they would be the following three coaches.  Sir Alex Ferguson (Aberdeen and Manchester United): Easily the most successful and decorated manager of the modern era. After breaking up the Old Firm (Celtic and Rangers) duopoly in Scotland, he arrived at Manchester United in 1986 with the express purpose of knocking Liverpool off their perch. He took a while to get started and didn’t win his first trophy until he captured the FA Cup in 1990, but he never slowed down after that. In 21 years he won the Premier League 13 times and his final title in 2012-13 was United’s 20th, more than Liverpool’s 19. In addition he won 2 European cups (1999 and 2008), 4 League Cups, 5 FA Cups, and 10 Charity/ Community Shields among his more than 20 major trophies. If you win that much, you probably had pretty good players and Sir Alex launched the careers of David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Gary and Phil Neville, Cristiano Ronaldo and helped established Eric Cantona, Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic, Mark Hughes, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, and Wayne Rooney as superstars.  Phil Jackson (Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers): The 11 titles and 1155 wins speak for themselves. Sure he never won without the like of Scottie Pippen, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Shaq but I would argue that there is a particular skill set needed to manage those players and no one did it better than the Zen Master. More than the accolades I think he’d be an interesting participant in a dinner conversation because he is just a different sort of dude, didn’t you watch Last Dance  Calvin Broadus Jr (Youth Football) I decided to go for Mr. Calvin Broadus Jr a youth football coach in the LA area as my last guest. I recognize that he may seem out of place among these luminaries but it is my dinner party after all. Oh you haven’t heard of him before, perhaps you know him by his stage name Snopp Dogg. Yes Snoop Dogg is a certified youth football coach and operates and coaches in a youth league in the Los Angeles area. The rules were living active or retired coaches I’d like to have dinner with and he’s a coach and he’s living so by my understanding that meets the criteria. Don’t know his accolades as a coach but he is an icon and multi-platinum recording artist and doggonit he’d be fun. ‘Nuff said in my opinion.  The bill?  Please send to Mr. Leo Haggerty, he’s picking up this tab.
