Buc Up…with Rob Kriete – September 20
-Buccaneer fans, what was going through your mind on that very first drive for a TD in New Orleans? One drive makes not a season, but that was a fun one!
-Quarterback, Tom Brady set the Tampa Bay franchise record with three TDs in his Buccaneer debut. Four others previous have shared the record of two TDs, including Jameis Winston.
-Most fans knew this team would have some growing pains, which were clear immediately after the first drive. But the miscues on special teams needs to be addressed by Week Two. Coach Arians seemed to agree when asked about the special teams’ performance following the defeat in New Orleans, “I didn’t see any of that coming. We practiced all that stuff. We had poor protection up the middle on the long field goal defeat.
-Look for the versatile RB Leonard Fournette to get increasingly more touches as he becomes more knowledgeable and comfortable in the Tampa Bay offense. Leonard had 5 carries and one nice reception for 14 yards in Week 1.
-Leo Haggerty of ItsSportsMagazine.com caught up with Coach Arians this week and asked if having the equivalent of a “pre-season game” and “game-speed ideas” will be helpful early in this season. Bruce emphatically replied, “I hope so. We got one under our belt now. Not only game speed, but playing without noise and keeping out sideline fired up!”
-Congratulations to the winners of the inaugural Buccaneers Girls in Football Scholarship sponsored by The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation. Four deserving female athletes will receive this first-of-its-kind academic scholarship for graduating female high school football players pursuing a career in sports. The winners were honored this week with visits from Shaq Barrett, Lavonte David, Mike Evans, and O.J. Howard.
-Lavonte David continues to shine for the Bucs defense with ten tackles against New Orleans. It marked the 35th time in Lavonte’s career with double-digit tackles.
-Prediction of the Week: Bucs 41
