LEO’S LOSERS WEEK 2 – SEPTEMBER 18
By Leo Haggerty
WEEK 1 was the normal conglomeration of near misses and late hits. Honestly, it’s hard getting them right the opening week especially with the NFL having no exhibition games due to Covid-19 to work out the kinks. All the games, with the exception of a few NCAA tilts, were the inaugural 2020 contests for every team.
With that being said, here’s the arithmetic from WEEK 1. LEO’S LOCK (1-0) was just that and netted me 200 skins. LEO’S LOSERS (3-2) was adequate but it was the wrong ones that won and lost. That cost me 125 pesos. LEO’S OTHER (4-6) was less-than stellar and took 500 greenbacks from my bank account.
So, when the dust settled, here’s the results for WEEK 1. I was an average 8-8 and average doesn’t cut it. That means I had to pay $425 to my short-term investment AKA the bookie.
Anyway, the show must go on and I’m hoping to do better in WEEK 2. Below are my prognostications. Enjoy.
NEW YORK JETS (+7) loses to San Francisco
San Fran is coming off a home division loss. The Bay Area Crew will arrive in The Big Apple in ill humor. That’s not a good omen for the Jets who aren’t that good anyway. SF, 30-13, as the 49ers get their first win of 2020.
GEORGIA TECH (+7 1/2) loses to Central Florida
Yeah, I know this is a Group of Six team going up against a Power Five Conference opponent on the road who already has a game under their belt. Still, the Knights are for real and the Central Florida warp-speed offense will give the Yellowjackets fits. UCF, 31-28, with a late score to seal the deal.
LOUISVILLE (2 1/2) loses to Miami-FL
I believe the Hurricanes are finally going to turn potential into wins. The Cardinals won’t be able to match Miami in the all-important overall speed department and that’s where the game will be won. UM, 24-17, in a close one.
Carolina (+8 1/2) loses to TAMPA BAY
Does anyone believe Tom Brady will lose two in a row? Not I that’s for sure. To say #12 was a bit surly this week is an understatement and I would bet none of his teammates want to incur his wrath with another loss. TB, 27-17, as the Buc hit the win column.
Washington (+7) loses to ARIZONA
The DC Guys put together a big comeback home win over the Eagles last week. This week poses a different problem. Ron Rivera’s team has to travel and play a Cardinals teams coming off a big road win over the 49ers. Arizona just has too many weapons on offense. AR, 34-20, as the Cards go to 2-0 on the season.
LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (+8 1/2) loses to Kansas City
The only team that may be able to beat the Chiefs right now is one from heaven. I know Kansas City is taking on a team from “The City of Angels” but that won’t help the Lightning Bolts. KC, 38-23, in a high scoring affair.
Navy (+6 1/2) loses to TULANE
South Florida (+25 1/2) loses to NOTRE DAME
Boston College (+6) loses to DUKE
LOUISIANA-MONROE (+4) loses to Texas State
MIDDLE TENNESSEE (+3) loses to Troy
MARSHALL (+5) loses to Appalachian State
Louisiana Tech (+5 1/2) loses to SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI
MIAMI (+5 1/2) loses to Buffalo
Detroit (+6) loses to GREEN BAY
Jacksonville (+7 1/2) loses to TENNESSEE
