What a difference a week makes.  To say that I’m back in the saddle again is an understatement.

WEEK 2 was a huge turnaround for one reason.  I decided to pick only favorites because of the extreme circumstances surrounding the opening of both the NCAA as well as the NFL seasons.

LEO’S LOCK (2-0) came through again.  I would like to thank the Jets for cooperating and putting 200 clams into my bank account.  LEO’S LOSERS (8-2) had a perfect 5-0 weekend.  Had to sweat the KC game with the Chargers that went to OT but Chiefs came through.  That netted a whopping 875 pesos.  Finally, LEO’S OTHERS (10-10) was a respectable 6-4 but, again, it was the wrong four and cost me 100 greenbacks.

So, at the end of the weekend, the arithmetic was a 12-4 won-loss log and 975 yen in the bank.  That make my overall record 20-12 and put me 550 shekels to the good much to the chagrin of my short term investment banker.

My WEEK 3 picks are below.  Will I take all the favorites again?  Well, you’ll just have to read down and see.  Enjoy.

DENVER (+5 1/2) loses to Tampa Bay
Here are the facts.  Broncos QB Drew Lock and DE Von Miller are both out.  Those are two huge pieces of the Denver puzzle that need to be replaced.  Also, the Bucs are getting better each week on both side of the football.  Altitude will be a problem for the Pewter Pirates but it won’t stand in the way of a victory.  TB, 27-16, with Brady finding Gronk for at least one score.

Kentucky (+7 1/2) loses to AUBURN
The opener for both teams.  The Tigers have a slew of players returning and they’re playing at home.  Enough said.  AU, 31-21, in a high scoring affair.

Iowa State (-2 1/2) loses to TEXAS CHRISTIAN
The Cyclones have a game under their belt but it was a loss. They will arrive in ill humor to Fort Worth but the Horned Frogs are extremely tough at home.  Picking the upset here.  TCU, 26-23, with a late field goal.

Tennessee (-3 1/2) loses to SOUTH CAROLINA
Both teams starting their 2020 season here as well.  The Vols think they are improved but the Gamecocks think the same thing.  What’s the tipping point for South Carolina?  The game is in Columbia and Rocky Top has trouble winning on the road.  SC, 34-31, in OT.

Detroit (+5 1/1) loses to Arizona
Lions gave away the opener against the Bears at home and got mauled by the Packers in Green Bay.  Arizona has beat Frisco on the road and Washington at home.  The Cardinals are for real and Detroit just keeps finding ways to lose.  I don’t see that changing this weekend.  AZ, 35-21, as Kyler Murray fins Hopkins and Fitzgerald for at least one score each.

Carolina (+6 1/2) loses to LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
The Panthers will be without all-purpose RB Christian McCaffrey.  That’s a lot of offense missing for Carolina.  The Bolts will be starting rookie QB Justin Herbert for the second week in a row.  Seems to balance out but the Los Angeles signal caller will now have the benefit of a whole week of practice with the first team.  In my mind that puts the Chargers over the top.  LAC, 24-13, in a game played very close to the vest.

EAST CAROLINA (+27) loses to Central Florida

MISSISSIPPI (+13 1/2) loses to Florida

West Virginia (+6 1/2) loses to OKLAHOMA STATE

Florida State (+11) loses to MIAMI-FL

PITTSBURGH (-3) loses to Louisville

VIRGINIA (-5 1/2) loses to Duke

Tennessee (-2 1/2) loses to MINNESOTA

NEW YORK GIANTS (+3 1/2) loses to San Francisco

Washington (+7) loses to CLEVELAND

Dallas (+5) loses to SEATTLE
