TAMPA BAY SPORTS WEEK IN REVIEW – OCTOBER 4

If you’re a Tampa Bay sports fan, this is a week you won’t soon forget.  The Stanley Cup is making a return trip to the Florida Gulf Coast.  There’s a legitimate World Series contender as well as a Lombardi Trophy prospect in the Bay area.  Great to be in Tampa Bay so read on to find out why.

LIGHTNING
MONDAY W 2-0
The Lightning win the Stanley Cup.  The Bolts win the series 4-2 with a shutout of the Dallas Stars.  F Brayden Point gets the game-winner in the first 20 minutes on a power-play and F Blake Coleman gets the insurance marker in the middle period.
ONE BIG THING – Tampa Bay G Andrei Vasilevskiy.  The Big Cat stops all 19 Dallas shots to bring the Stanley Cup to Tampa Bay for the second time.

NEXT GAME – DECEMBER

RAYS

TUESDAY W 3-1
Tampa Bay takes the opener of the best-of-three American League Wild Card round over Toronto.  Rays get a gift run on a wild pitch in the 4th along with a two-run dinger from OF Manuel Margot in the 7th and the bullpen holds Blue Jays to just a single run over the last 3.1 innings.
ONE BIG THING – TB SP Blake Snell.  The lefty hurls 5.2 innings of shutout baseball allowing only a single hit and two walks while recording 9 K’s.

WEDNESDAY W 8-2
Rays move on to the American League Divisional Series with a sweep of the Blue Jays.  Six-run second breaks it open early and Tampa Bay cruises home from there.
ONE BIG THING – Rays long ball.  C Mike Zunino with a two-run blast and OF Hunter Renfroe hits a grand salami to provide all the runs Tampa Bay would need.

NEXT GAME – MONDAY VS NEW YORK YANKEES

BUCS W 38-31
Tampa Bay digs a 24-7 early hole to the Chargers but manages to crawl out and move to 3-1 on the season.  Pewter Pirates turned a late first half fumble into a touchdown that turned fueled the comeback.
ONE BIG THING – TB QB Tom Brady.  #12 throws for five TDs to five different Bucs receivers to grasp victory from the jaws of defeat.

NEXT GAME – THURSDAY AT CHICAGO BEARS

ROWDIES L 2-1
Charleston scored first when MF Stavros Zarokostas found the back of the net at the 57 minute mark only to have Tampa Bay tie the match 5 minutes later when D Forrest Lasso scored.  The Battery get the clincher at the 84th minute to earn a hard fought road victory.
ONE BIG THING – Zarokastas.  The Greek native scored both goals in the final USL regular season contest.

NEXT GAME – SATURDAY VS BIRMINGHAM LEGION

BULLS

SATURDAY L 28-7
South Florida spotted Cincinnati a 21-0 lead before the Green & Gold found the end zone.  Any hopes of a comeback were dashed when the Bearcats took the ensuing kickoff to the house.
ONE BIG THING – Turnovers.  Good news is the Bulls forced four but the bad news is USF threw 5 interceptions.
