By Leo Haggerty

As Artie Johnson would say on “Laugh In” back in the 1960’s, Week 5 had some “veeeeery interesting” results to say the least.  So, let’s get right to what transpired last weekend, shall we?

LEO’S LOCK (4-1), for the first time, failed to produce a winner.  That one cost me 400 pesos.  LEO’S LOSERS (16-9) was a respectable 3-2 and that netted me 175 greenbacks.  LEO’S OTHERS (30-20) was an exceptional 8-2, with three underdogs winning, and that was good for 1,100 rubles.

As you can see, Week 5 was a big one for me.  I recorded an 11-5 log and that increased my bank account by 875 lira.  That brings the arithmetic for 2020 to 50-30 and has cost my short term investment banker 2,025 drachmas so far.  Not a bad start if I do say so myself.

Let’s see if I can keep the ball rolling in Week 6.  My picks are below and look for a dog or two to show up.  Enjoy.

New York Jets (+9 1/2) loses to MIAMI
Hey, it’s the Jets. I could probably take them every week and get it right at least 14 times.  This will be no exception for three reason.  The game’s at Hard Rock Stadium for strike one.  The Dolphins are coming off a huge road annihilation of the 49ers for strike two.  Fish QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has the magic back for strike three and NY out. MIA, 31-17, in a blowout that moves the Fins to 3-3.

MEMPHIS (+2 1/2) loses to Central Florida
What we found out about the Golden Knights in their loss to Tulsa is that there is something that can slow down their high-powered offense and that’s Mother Nature.  Look for the weather to cooperate and Central Florida to get back on the winning track.  The Tigers will put up a fight but won’t be able to keep up.  UCF, 45-35, in an AAC shootout.

Liberty (+2 1/2) loses SYRACUSE
I had to check and see if this line was right.  That’s telling me that Liberty is pretty good or the Cuse is that bad or both.  I’m not buying it especially at the Carrier Dome.  SYR, 31-16, as the Orange get their 2nd win of the 2020 campaign.

Virginia (-1 1/2) loses to WAKE FOREST
UVA may have had a lot taken out of them in their loss to Clemson at Death Valley and home defeat by NC State.  Now they have to go to Winston-Salem to take on the Demon Deacons.  Not good for the Cavaliers.  WF, 38-35, with a late field goal.

Green Bay (-1) loses to TAMPA BAY
This will be first one to 30 wins.  Look for both QBs to put on a show with multiple TD passes by both.  It’ll all come down which team has the ball last and I’m saying it will be the Bucs.  TB, 31-28, with a last-minute score to seal the deal.

BUFFALO (+4 1/2) loses to Kansas City
If fans could be at this contest I will be all in for the Bills but they won’t be in attendance.  That negates a huge home field advantage for Buffalo and that will be enough for the Chiefs.  The Upstate New York has a defense that will keep this close but Mahomes has too many weapons and, coming off a loss, will be extra motivated.  KC, 27-24, with a late stop to secure the win.

South Florida (+13) loses to TEMPLE

Pittsburgh (+13) loses to MIAMI-FL

FLORIDA STATE (+13 1/2) loses to North Carolina

ALABAMA (-4 1/2) loses to Georgia

EAST CAROLINA (+3) loses to Navy

SOUTH CAROLINA (+3) loses to Auburn

JACKSONVILLE (+3) loses to Detroit

Baltimore (-9 1/2) loses to PHILADELPHIA

Cincinnati (+8) loses to INDIANAPOLIS

Denver (+9 1/2) loses to New England
