TAMPA BAY SPORTS WEEK IN REVIEW – OCTOBER 25
By Leo Haggerty

OCTOBER 19 TO OCTOBER 25

The Bucs continue to win.  The Rowdies advanced to the USL championship game.  What more can you ask for, Tampa Bay?

How about one of the greatest finishes in MLB history?  Even if you’re not a baseball fan, Game 4 of the World Series had to have you on the edge of your seats.  In one of the most exciting and strangest Fall Classic games of all time, each team scored in four of their last five innings.  The Rays, down 7-6 with two out in the bottom of the 9th, get a two-strike hit to walk off the Dodgers with the winning run crawling to the dish.

Here’s a recap of the rest of what happened in the Tampa Bay sports world last week.  Enjoy.

RAYS

TUESDAY L 8-3
LA goes up 1-0.  The Dodgers sandwich a four run 5th with a couple of deuces in the 4th and 6th to secure the victory.
ONE BIG THING – Los Angeles bats.  10 hits that include two doubles and a couple dingers.

WEDNESDAY W 6-4
Tampa Bay evens the series at a game each. The Rays score a singleton in the 1st then add two each in the 4th and 5th and hold on for the win.
ONE BIG THING – 2B Brandon Lowe.  Breaks out of his postseason slump with a two homer evening.

FRIDAY L 6-2
Los Angeles takes a 2-1 advantage.  Dodgers score one in the first along with a couple in the 3rd and 4th to seal the deal.
ONE BIG THING – LA SP Walker Buehler.  Scatters 3 hits while allowing just one run and striking out 10 over six innings.

SATURDAY W 8-7
Rays even the series at 2 games apiece.  After Los Angeles takes the lead in the 8th Tampa Bays puts up two in the 9th for a walk off win.
ONE BIG THING  – TB OF Brett Phillips.  With the Rays down to their last strike #14 laces his first postseason hit ever scoring two runs in a very strange way.

SUNDAY L 4-2
We’re on the seesaw as LA goes up 3-2.  Los Angeles scores two in the 1st then a singleton in the 2nd was enough to get the W.
ONE BIG THING  – Dodgers bullpen.  3.1 innings of shutout baseball after getting blasted the night before.

NEXT GAME – TUESDAY AT LOS ANGELES DODGERS

BUCS

SUNDAY W 45-20
Buccaneers move to 5-2 and stay atop the NFC South with the win.  21 point 4th quarter closes out the Raiders.

ROWDIES

SATURDAY W 2-1
Tampa Bay wins the Eastern Conference championship beating Louisville.  Rowdies score twice in the opening half and hold on after giving up an early goal in the second half to advance to the USL finals.
ONE BIG THING – TB G Evan Louro.  Except for an own goal another clean sheet for the Rowdies netminder.

NEXT GAME – SUNDAY VS PHOENIX RISING

BULLS

FRIDAY L 42-13
USF commit three turnovers and in dire need of the bye week.  Offense sputters in the red zone and defense can’t stop the run.
