LEO’S LOSERS WEEK 9 – NOVEMBER 6
By Leo Haggerty
WEEK 9
As the old saying goes, “What goes up must come down” and Week 8 was a downer. With that being said, it still could have been worse as you will read about below.
LEO’S LOCK (6-2) failed to click for the second time this season and I am totally blaming this on the Green Bay game plan. With Minnesota down to their last cornerbacks, and some getting banged up during the contest, the Pack chose to run the football rather than exploit that weakness until it was too late. That insane choice cost me 400 pesos. LEO’S LOSERS (25-15) came back to earth with a pedestrian 2-3 log. That took 625 lira from my bank account. LEO’S OTHERS (49-31) posted another 7-3 record to save the weekend. That cut my losses by 600 Euros.
That brings the Week 8 record to 10-6. The big problem was it was the wrong six and that cost me 425 yen. Overall, that puts the arithmetic at 81-47 and still 3,150 rands (South African money if anyone is interested) to the good.
So, what predictions will I make Week 9 now the the PAC 12 joins the party? You’ll have to check below and see what this weeks picks will be.
Also, I will be adding my reasoning early tomorrow. Want to make sure I get the picks up just in case I don’t make it for the noon kickoffs. Enjoy.
LEO’S LOCK
NEW YORK JETS (+8 1/2) loses to New England
This is a no brainer. Yes, I know it’s the Patriots without #12 and New England is heading to the Big Apple which normally would mean a loss if they were playing the other New York team. The Jets just keep finding ways to lose and that trend will continue. NE, 19-9, in an ugly football game.
LEO’S LOSERS
NCAA
ILLINOIS (+7) loses to Minnesota
Going out a limb here. Minnesota lost big to Michigan and gave one away to Maryland. I believe Coach Fleck will have the Gophers undivided attention going to Champaign to take on the Illini. Game will be close but look for the visitors to get their first win of the 2020 season. UM, 34-24, as the Gophers row the boat in the winning direction.
NOTRE DAME (+5) loses to Clemson
Yes, there’s no Lawrence under center for the Tigers. Still, Clemson will put a lot of talent on the gridiron today. Irish getting close but the overall speed of the Orange & Purple will be the deciding factor in a close contest. CU, 30-20 in a prelude to the ACC Championship.
Georgia (-3) loses to Florida
Elimination game for both teams. Loser out of the College Football Playoff conversation. Both teams evenly matched except for QB where Gators have a big edge. That’s good enough for me. UF, 27-24, with a late score to seal the deal.
NFL
New Orleans (+4 1/2) loses to TAMPA BAY
Hard to beat someone twice in the same season. Even harder when the GOAT is under center. Plus, the Saints are out of the dome and weather could be an issue. That plays right into the Buccaneers hands. TB, 31-28, with a FG in OT to hold onto the top spot in the NFC South for now.
Miami (+4 1/2) loses to ARIZONA
Battle of two young quarterbacks. Tua for the Fish and Kyler for the Cards will be fun to watch. Zona is at home and Murray has a lot more weapons at his disposal. That’s good enough for me. AR, 41-31, in a shootout in the desert.
