SUPER BOWL LV SIGHTS & SOUNDS – FEBRUARY 8

BUCS WIN

Normally, I would be writing the Bucs game summary the day after a Tampa Bay tilt.  Since every sports fan who reads this column already knows that the Buccaneers demolished the Chiefs to the tune of 31-9, it would just be rehashing what you is common knowledge.

So, we decided to give you the the responses of four of the Pewter Pirates immediately following their victory in Super Bowl LV to our questions.  We hope you enjoy.

ISM : The Lightning win the Stanley Cup and the Rays go to the World Series.  Did you feel some pressure to bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Tampa after what they accomplished?
LB Levonte David : Yeah, most definitely man. The pressure was on us. The Lightning won the Stanley Cup and the Rays went to the World Series. Unfortunately, they didn’t pull it off, but we were still rooting for them. Hopefully they get a chance to go back again. It was our time now. We had to step up to the challenge for the city. It was definitely long overdue.  Those guys had our backs throughout the season, both the Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Bay Lightning. They were rooting us on. I saw something earlier that a lot of those guys had on our jerseys as they were going to their games. It’s definitely a family thing. All organizations stick together for this city. We were able to step up to the plate and bring one home for Tampa Bay.
ISM : The last three teams you faced in the playoffs, New Orleans and Green Bay plus Kansas City, you had already played during the regular season.  Was it an advantage to have seen them in person as opposed to just on film?
OG Ali Marpet : I think it’s really important. I know personally I feel that if I played against someone it is an advantage. I feel that if you’re playing someone twice in the same year you know how they play things, you know how they fit things. It makes you play a little bit faster so its huge that we played all of those teams earlier on except Washington obviously. We’re just really fortunate I guess.

LB Levonte David about the Super Bowl
DB Carlton Davis : It definitely gives you an upper hand when you have already played the team. You know their personnel; you know what they liked to do. Obviously, it’s the playoffs and you have to expect everything. But, just to have the knowledge of knowing what they like to do and knowing who their guys are gave us a boost on just studying them and game planning against them. So, to see them again on the big stage is something that you always want. You always want to see because game planning for a new team is obviously going to take more time and a lot more studying.
ISM : Three years ago there was talk that you may not even make the club.  Now, you’re making a significant contributions to this defense.  Personally, after what you’ve been through, how big is it to win the Super Bowl?
DL William Gholston on winning the Super Bowl
DL William Gholston : It’s huge to be honest with you.  To be able to etch my name in the Super Bowl history books.  There was a lot of people that wanted me to get cut.  I was on the bubble a lot.  Different coaches but it’s amazing.  I’m just so glad that the organization believed in me and gave me the opportunity.  I’m just glad that the Gholston name is paved as a Super Bowl winner.
