Game On…with Rob Kriete! – FEBRUARY 10
The cannons were finally fired, and the Buccaneer flags were flown all over Tampa Bay on Sunday evening, and the party continues. The Tampa Bay Bucs saved their very best game for last in Super Bowl LV. Or, at least the defense did. Tom Brady won his seventh Super Bowl (more than any of the 32 individual NFL franchises) and his record 5th Super Bowl MVP Award, but the Tampa Bay defense was the game’s clear hero.
Patrick Mahomes had nowhere to go on Sunday…not deep, not to the sides, perhaps a little to his big tight-end, Travis Kelce. But the Bucs defense chased the young quarterback like a bully looking for his milk-money. Todd Bowles’ game plan was flawless and counter-intuitive for a defensive coordinator who employs the blitz so often. Bowles showed blitz more than he executed it, leaving his defense to adequately cover receivers while the defensive line chased Mahomes. Brady might have won the MVP, but the defense ensured a Buccaneer’s victory. How about the fact that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are undefeated in Super Bowls? Even Tom Brady cannot claim that!
Today we celebrate a victory parade, Tampa Bay style! The Bucs boarded boats today to share the Super Bowl LV victory with their great Buccaneer fans, socially-distanced, of course. Fanatics lined up along the scenic Riverwalk to cheer on the Super Bowl champs today despite having only 24-hour notice of the celebration event.
The Bucs players were energized and pumped-up to share the celebration with the Tampa fans.
A great day to be a Bucs fan! Next up, how can the Bucs keep the whole band together to defend the title? Stay tuned for a final “Buc Up!” this week to recap this championship season for the 2020 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Be safe, everyone.
