NCAA MEN’S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT – MARCH 18
By Leo Haggerty

LET THE MADNESS BEGIN

It’s here.  Starting around 12:00 noon EDT, March Madness returns after a one year hiatus due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Below is my bracket albeit without the lines but it’s easy to follow.  Just keep moving across and you’ll see it contains a combination of the chalk, which is the gambling term for the favorite, as well as some big upsets surviving and advancing.  Enjoy.

So, hat takes us to the Final Four weekend.  My choices to get to the finals are:
Gonzaga                       Gonzaga
Michigan

Baylor                           Baylor
San Diego State

My pick to cut down the nets in the finals, and this should be no surprise to anyone, is:
GONZAGA

I truly believe that Head Coach Mark Few has such a powerhouse out in Spokane that, for the Zags to lose, they have to play their C game and the opposition has to play their BEST game of the season.

They were the best team last year and we denied proving that by the pandemic.  For that reason, they are on a mission this year and I believe the ONLY way Gonzaga gets derailed is by a Covid outbreak that forces them out or another tournament shutdown.

Here’s the nice thing.  Starting tomorrow, it all starts so check the following four boxes. First, make sure you’ve stocked up with your favorite snacks and adult beverages.  Second, if you’re not lucky enough to have a significant other who is as interested in The Dance as you are, and I am extremely fortunate to fall under this category, kiss them good bye for a few days.  Third, find your most comfortable chair or couch and reserve it.  Finally, put fresh batteries in the remote to avoid any malfunction.

Look for my Women’s bracket later.  So, without further adieu, let the madness begin.  Enjoy.
