SZNAP CHAT – OCTOBER 7

WEEKLY FOOTBALL UPDATE
Well, it took about 6 weeks and the 2021 football season has gone just about the same as every other for me. The Dolphins took a promising team into the campaign and dropped to 1-3 after a debilitating loss to the Colts. The Gators ended their own season by shooting themselves in the foot nonstop and losing to Kentucky for just the third time in 41 years.
I will attempt to spin the negative into positive in this week’s Florida football update.
The overly optimistic fan got to me in this one. I was expecting backup Jacoby Brissett to lead a decent offense in a revenge game against his former team. Instead, the Dolphins ran the most timid offense possible leading to 3 first half points. Also, nonstop touchdowns to Colts TE Mo Allie-Cox in single coverage did not help the situation. To make matters worse, when the Dolphins finally spread out the offense in the 4th quarter, they seemed to move the ball better, proving the timid offensive play was not the way to go.
This week the Dolphins head to Tampa Bay to play Tom Brady and the defending champion Bucs. Although the Dolphins have gotten the upper hand on Brady multiple times, I just don’t see them pulling this off. I just look forward to Tua returning against the Jaguars in 2 weeks… Buccaneers 31-21
The Gators went into Kentucky needing to win to keep their path to the Southeastern Conference championship game as well as college football playoffs alive. That did not happen. The Gators shot themselves in the foot by repeatedly false starting in about every big offensive moment. By putting themselves in awful positions, the Gators were unable to overcome a sold Kentucky defense. Overall the Gators defense played well but struggled stopping the run when it matters.
This week the Gators have an easy game scheduled for homecoming against perennial SEC bottom dweller Vanderbilt. Not much needs to be said about this game but if the Gators lose they should probably end the season on the spot… Gators 56-7
